This is a project that I organized and planned from January 2024 to April 2024. By working with the Philip Merrill College of Journalism, the University of Maryland, College Park's Special Collection and Archives division, La Voz Latina and the Black Explosion, I hosted a pannel discussion on the intersection of journalism and activism. The Black Explosion is the University of Marylands first and only Black newspaper since 1970. Sponsored by the Nyumburu Cultural Center, the Black Explosion has served to be a voice for the Black community in the University of Maryland by covering the stories that matter to the community. WMUC-FM is a student-run radio station at the University of Maryland, broadcasting live from WMUC Radio 90.5-FM College Park. Across the radio waves and their digital site WMUC Digital, they provide original programming and news to the UMD community.
A 2024 graduate from the University of Maryland, College Park, Aaron Carter Wright earned a degree in journalism and a certificate in African American and Africana Studies. Outside of journalism, Aaron is an avid Blerd/geek (Black nerd, for the uninitiated), having a wide range of interests and knowledge in anime, astronomy, comics, manga, model-kit building (Legos and Gundam), movies, television and video games.
